What to wear:
- Footy gear (e.g. T-shirt and jumper and shorts &/or tracksuit pants), or other clothes your child is comfortable playing in, which are appropriate to cope with the weather conditions.
- Always bring your child’s RED and BLUE Auskick sleeveless jumpers to every Auskick session.
- Football boots are not essential, but can be very helpful if the ground is wet & slippery. (If you have any old boots, please bring them along and we may be able to swap them.)
- Whether or not your child brings footy boots, please always bring runners, in case we are doing activities on the basketball courts. (Your Auskick backpack has a space in it for an extra pair of shoes.)
- Mouthguards are strongly recommended.
- Gloves can be helpful for handling cold, wet, & slippery footballs.
- Always bring your child’s Auskick backpack, with their name clearly marked, containing everything your child will need at Auskick (there is even a drink bottle and drink holder included.)
Generally, we do not play in the rain, so if you think the rain may clear and it will be OK to play, come along and we will assess the situation. We will attempt to run a session every week as per the timetable, but depending on the weather this may be on the oval, or the asphalted areas. Due to the condition of the oval this year, the school has requested that we not run our sessions on the oval if the ground is wet to avoid further damage (skills may be practicesd on the asphalted areas in this instance). We will review this as the season progresses. If it is a rainy day, please stay with your child in case we have to end the session early due to the weather. (Our access to the Multi-Purpose Room is limited and subject to other bookings).
We have many accredited coaches at Mount Waverley Auskick as follows:
If you are at all interested in helping with coaching (it isn’t hard and you don’t need to be from a football background), please let me know. We would love to get some ladies involved in coaching this year, especially as we are hoping for a bigger intake of girls than in previous years.
The matches at the end of each session are played according to Auskick modified rules. The emphasis is on all kids getting a kick, being able to execute the skills they have been learning without undue physical pressure (i.e. tackling), having fun and minimising the chance of injuries.
Some of the notable rules are:
- no tackling
- no scoring
- no kicking off the ground.
- touching a ball in mid air is paid as a mark
- regular rotation of players through different positions
- Other special rules (appropriate to your age group) will be advised before each match by your coaches.
